Discover The Ebony Tarot

The Ebony Tarot Deck was born from a vision to create a tarot deck that reflects the richness, diversity, and beauty of Black cultures and identities. While traditional tarot has long been rooted in European imagery, this project seeks to broaden that visual language by offering a fresh interpretation of the timeless archetypes through an Afrocentric lens, one that celebrates heritage, resilience, spirituality, and self-discovery.

Rather than changing the essence of the tarot, this photographic projet,  reimagines its symbolic universe with characters, settings, and visual narratives inspired by the cultures, histories, and experiences of people of African descent. Every card preserves the depth and meaning of the traditional tarot while inviting readers to connect with imagery that is more inclusive, representative, and culturally resonant.

The creation of the deck was the result of an extensive artistic and creative process. Each illustration was carefully developed through research, visual storytelling, and thoughtful symbolic design. Every detail, from the characters’ expressions and attire to the colors, landscapes, and sacred motifs were intentionally chosen to honor both the timeless traditions of tarot and the richness of African and Afro-diasporic aesthetics.
